Why is LED Lighting Market so Lucrative in the GCC Region

LED LightingCurrently, LEDs are the most energy-efficient and one of the rapidly developing lighting technologies in the world. They offer numerous benefits over the conventional lighting technologies. LED lights have a longer lifespan, consumes up to 90% less electricity than the traditional lighting sources and are highly efficient with minimum radiation or heat emission. As a result, LED lights are rapidly replacing incandescent and fluorescent lights in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors in the GCC region.

LED lighting market in the GCC region has grown at a CAGR of 20.6% during 2009-2016. Factors like growing urbanization rates, infrastructural development and concerns over emission of greenhouse gases are currently driving the growth of the LED lighting market in the GCC countries. Other factors like the new UAE regulations which restrict the imports and sales of incandescent lamps; upcoming events like the World Expo in 2020 and the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the ongoing green building movement, increasing government support and a ban on inefficient lighting technologies are further expected to create a massive demand for LED lighting in the major GCC markets. Currently, Saudi Arabia and UAE represent the two biggest markets for LED lights in the region.

LEDs Used in Signage/Professional Displays Global Market Review & Forecast (2011-2017)

LEDs Used in Signage/Professional Displays Global Market Review & Forecast (2011-2017)–128773.html

Upper Lake, CA (USA) – June 8, 2012  — ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market research consultancy, today announced the release of a new market forecast of the global market consumption of packaged Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) used in signage and professional displays.  The consumption value will increase with rising quantity growth largely offset by declining average prices.

According to the study results, the global consumption value LEDs used in signage & professional displays in 2011 was over $1.63 billion, up from $1.5 billion in 2010. In the year 2017, consumption is forecast to reach $3.3 billion. In terms of consumption value, high brightness (HB) LEDs holds a relative market share of nearly 67 percent in 2012.

The American region (South, Central and North America) and the Asia Pacific region (APAC) are even in market share (2012); however, the APAC region is forecast to expand at a faster pace.

The Europe, Middle East and African region (EMEA) holds over 20 percent share of global consumption value in 2012; however, is forecast for relatively flat growth for the next few years.

This 2011-2017 market review and forecast is presented for Standard-type versus High Brightness- (HB) type LEDs used in signage and professional displays. High Brightness (HB) light emitting diodes (LEDs), defined by ElectroniCast, are component-level bulbs with a Lumens/Watt rating of 30lm/W and above (>30lm/W); Standard-type LEDs have a Lumen/Watt rating of less than 30lm/W (<30lm/W).

This application category includes covers LEDs that are used signs and displays. LEDs are used in building facades, large outdoor video screens, digital billboards, sport/stadium displays, small indoor retail displays, food displays (restaurants/ supermarkets), signs on taxis and destination signs on mass-transit vehicles, channel-lettering/light-boxes, LED/LCD TV screens (used exclusively for professional purposes), and the list continues.

The market share leader, in terms of volume (the quantity/number of LEDs), are the standard-type LEDs, with over 95 percent last year in 2012; however, since there is a huge difference in average selling prices between HB-LEDs and standard LEDs, the HB-LEDs hold the consumption value leadership position.

The High-Brightness (HB) category also includes Ultra-High Brightness (UHB) light emitting diodes (LEDs with a Lumen/Watt rating of over 70lm/W).  The ASP for both conventional (standard) and HB LEDs will decrease annually; however, Ultra High Brightness LEDs (UHB-LEDs) prices have a substantial premium over the HB-LEDS, and although currently there is a relatively small use of UHB-LEDs in this application, as the use of UHB-LEDs increase, the over-all effect shows the HB-LED category with only a slight annual decrease, in terms of average selling prices (2011-2017).

Note: Market forecast data in this study report refers to consumption (use) for a particular calendar year; therefore, this data is not cumulative data.
